What is henna?
Henna is a plant dye Which harmlessly stains the skin red-browncolor. It has been used since antiquity to dye skin, hair, and fingernails. Women stains their hands with henna to celebrate life, love, and fertility as early as 7000B.C.E. in the eastern Mediterranean .Henna use has been continuous since then, spreading out over 9000 years into over 50 countries, and was included within least 6 major religions.Though local traditions developed through time, most Henna use is still similar to the earliest recorded women's fertility celebrations.Within each tribe, country ,religion, or civilization,Henna patterns reflect the arts and societies of the time, and women's life within each culture.
How does henna work?
Whole, unbroken henna leaves will not stain the skin. Dried henna leaves will stain the skin if they are mashed into a paste. The paste will migrate from the surface of the skin to the outer layer of the skin and bind to the proteins in it, creating a fast stain.
Henna has been used to adorn bodies as part of social and holiday celebrations since the late Bronze Age in the eastern Mediterranean. It was regarded as having "blessings" and also applied for luck as well as joy and beauty. The culture of "Bridal Mehndi" has been kept to this day.
No two Henna are exactly alike.Different harvests have different characteristics.Different temperatures affect the dye release curve.Different people's skin stains differently!
Pre-mixed henna body art pastes may have ingredients added to darken stain, or to alter stain color. To avoid few other negative effects or allergic reactions of the Pre-mixed henna pastes. We suggest customers getting the natural reddish brown henna which is mixed of the henna powder, sugar, lemon juice and plant oils.
How to take care of your henna
Do not touch or bump it for at least 1 hour. Henna lasts longest and stains darkest on the hands/feet; the farther you get away from hands/feet, the poorer your stain will be. Your henna design should last 2 weeks on the hands/feet, and 1 week everywhere else on your body. The longer you leave the paste on the darker it will be and the longer it will last; hands/feet: 4-5 hours, rest of the body: 6-12 hours. As the paste dries, the design should be dabbed with a lemon-sugar solution to help glue it to the skin. If you are going to sleep with the paste on your skin, cover it with kleenex or gauze held in place with medical tape. Keep the hennaed body part warm but not sweaty. Rub oil into it before showering. The stain will start out bright orange but change to a reddish brown over the next 24-48 hours. To make your beautiful henna design last, try not to scrub the area or use exfoliating lotions on it.
